Recently there were a few new joiners who were spamming members with fake messages such as finding a job for them in Canada, or getting rich by running a home business, etc.

An easy way to know if a person's message is true or false is to check his/her own profile and see if he has sent the message to so many other members or not. Also check their credentials such as their company website as well as google results for their company name.
